Jason Garrett said in a recent interview that the Cowboys’ goal is to shore up roster needs prior to the NFL Draft, allowing them to focus on acquiring the best available talents. To that end, Dallas has scheduled visits with veteran free agents Jason Jones and Joe Looney.
Listed at 6’5″ and 275 pounds, Jones has the size to move inside and play tackle if needed. If signed by Dallas he would replace Jeremy Mincey as a versatile veteran with plenty of starting experience.
Still very thin at defensive end, this signing would go a long way to helping Dallas feel less restricted in the coming draft. Rumors are circulating that they’re not high on top prospect Joey Bosa.
Dallas tried out Ronald Leary in the past as a center and but it wasn’t a good fit. They’ve enjoyed several years of security with Mackenzy Bernadeau as a versatile guard/center option but he recently signed with Jacksonville. Looney would help to fill the void.
